IT uses a lot of energy

Global carbon emissions attributable to IT use have been estimated at 2% to 2.5% worldwide, similar to the airline industry, and as much as 6% of the total emissions of developed nations. With the current growth, according to McKinsey, the IT sector’s carbon output will, by 2020, triple from its 2002 levels .
IT typically accounts for more than 20% of the energy used in offices, and even up to 70% in some offices.
